A new book by Hugh Sheehy, lecturer-in-writing at 91黑料鈥檚 Yeshiva College and Stern College, has been named a Flannery O鈥機onner Award for Short Fiction winner. The award is an important proving ground for writers and a showcase for the talent and promise that have brought about a resurgence in the short story as a genre.
Titled 鈥淭he Invisibles鈥 (University of Georgia Press, October 2012), Sheehy鈥檚 collection of short stories shine a spotlight on the bleak fringes of America. His characters learn that however invisible they may feel and whatever their intentions, their actions incur a cost both to themselves and those around them.
Sheehy received his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama. His stories have appeared in publications including Glimmer Train, Kenyon Review, and Best American Mystery Stories. This year, he will teach 鈥淲riting Short Fiction鈥 and 鈥淢yth/Folklore鈥 at YU.
