Rabbi Shlomo Amar delivers Shiur to RIETS Students, Meets with Roshei Yeshiva
Rabbi Shlomo Amar, the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel, paid a visit to (RIETS), an affiliate of on December 9, the last day of Chanukah. The chief rabbi, also known as the Rishon LeZion, delivered a shiur [lecture] to RIETS students, met with various roshei yeshiva and members of the YU faculty and administration, and held a private question and answer session with members of the RIETS Kollel Elyon.
鈥淐hief Rabbi Amar is a towering personality in the world Jewish community and an outstanding Torah scholar,鈥 said , the Max and Marion Grill Dean of RIETS. 鈥淲e are privileged to have this opportunity to solidify our strong relationship with the Chief Rabbinate and work together earnestly for the benefit of Klal Yisroel, both in the diaspora and in Eretz Yisroel.鈥
While students and rebbeim packed the beit midrash [study hall] in YU鈥檚 to hear Rabbi Amar鈥檚 shiur on Chanukah, the day held added significance for the Sephardic students on campus.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a great honor to have the chief rabbi visit YU and to have the opportunity to meet and ask him questions,鈥 said Yosef Chaim Yanetz, a RIETS shoel u鈥檓eishiv [mentor] and student at YU鈥檚 .
鈥淲e are very proud that YU has invited Chief Rabbi Amar,鈥 added Yosef Sharbat 鈥09 YC, a RIETS student currently enrolled at YU鈥檚 . 鈥淎s a Sephardic student it means a lot to have this great rabbi here.鈥
