The Wurzweiler Clinical Doctorate of Social Work program will graduate students with a Doctorate in Social Welfare. It is designed to enhance the knowledge and skill base of experienced post MSW clinicians who are either in direct practice with a client base, supervisors or administrators of clinical programs. We are dedicated to preparing you to become scholarly evidence-based clinicians, leaders in social service agency settings, educators in clinical social work education.

Unlike PhD programs, which emphasize social work research and research skill development, our DSW offers a comprehensive format for advancement for those already practicing clinical social work. The program incorporates historical, contemporary and emerging clinical theories and therapy models for direct clinical practice with individuals, couples, families,groups and communities. The Clinical curriculum coursework and Grand Challenge project consists of evidence-based clinical practice, research, ethics, and educational pedagogies and practices in the area of clinical social work. As the field of social work is growing fast, there is no better time to earn this prestigious credential that is a stepping stone for leadership roles.

Does the program include preparation for teaching or supervision?
The curriculum supports the development of advanced supervision, consultation, and teaching competencies. Graduates are prepared to mentor clinicians, supervise teams, and pursue adjunct or full time academic teaching opportunities.

Can I continue working while enrolled?

What professional experience is required for admission?
Applicants must hold an MSW from a CSWE accredited program or international equivalent and have a minimum of three years of supervised post MSW clinical experience. Professional licensure is required.

Is the GRE required?

Yes, you can pursue the DSW degree at Wurzweiler from another state. The classes are held via zoom and do not require attendance in-person. 

Are international applicants eligible to apply?

Applicants whose studies were conducted outside of the U.S. and English-speaking Canada will be required to submit a course-by-course evaluation of their degrees from a NACES evaluator. Applicants who studies in a country where English is not the primary language of instruction will be required to submit the TOEFL or IELTS exam.
